What is 2/2 time in music?
I have studied music and have passed grades 1-4 theory exams but I have never encounter a meter of 2/2 time..I am an'organist' at a small church that uses Ira Sankey songbook from way back when because they do not have modern hymnal.I have asked other musicians but they claim not to know the song and that they cannot play it.Some of them play by ear. How do you play 2/2 meter in music?

The easy answer is - 2 beats per measure - 1 beat per half-note.
Play it just like you would 4/4 but it would be counted like this ... 1 and 2 and ..... instead of ... 1 2 3 4 ...
They used to do that in older songbooks and hymnals to indicate the "feel" of the song.
